"The Fred Waring Radio Show"
In cooperation with Penn State's "Fred Waring's America," The Center for American Heritage Studies was proud to preserve one of America's entertainment pioneers. Fred Waring's shows kept America singing throughout the 20th century. Beginning during the last months of World War I and working through the Roaring Twenties, Great Depression, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam era and into the 1980s, Fred Waring kept America singing for 69 years!
In celebration of the man "who taught America how to sing," we were pleased to revive a special selection of Fred Waring arrangements drawn from his World War II era radio programs. As Mr. Waring was fond of saying present "something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue." And that's just what we have! Presented in historical context, the program featured educational displays and a special program booklet on life during the World War II era.
